Berney Arms is a remote location, situated approximately four miles from
Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England at the Western end of the tidal expanse
of Breydon Water. What's the fascination? Well it has an impressive windmill
which can be visited, a pub (The Berney
Arms Inn), a RSPB
nature reserve, a railway station
and it stands on the Weavers' Way, a long distance footpath covering the
length of Norfolk. If you just want to get away from it all then its remoteness
and natural surroundings could be the answer. There is no road access
for at least 2 miles in any direction so getting there involves a walk
across the marshes from Great Yarmouth,
Freethorpe, Reedham or Halvergate (the closest point). Alternatively one
can take the train from Great Yarmouth or Reedham or go by boat, tie up
alongside the pub or mill and rest awhile.
